Zulekha Hospital Expert Treats UAE Resident Successfully After Multiple Attempts To Open 100 Per Cent Blocked Artery

A 46-year-old male with a history of high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease was rushed in at Zulekha Hospital Dubai with shortness of breath. Jose De Guzman, a UAE resident has been in the country for 14 years and working for an international brand. He has been scouting many hospitals and underwent multiple procedures to open up the artery blockage over the last five years in UAE and Oman. He breathes a sigh of relief after a successful procedure at Zulekha Hospital Dubai.

Jose was reported to have persistent angina, a condition marked by severe pain in the chest, often also spreading to the shoulders, arms, and neck, owing to an inadequate blood supply to the heart. A repeat coronary angiogram revealed a single vessel disease which is a complete total blockage of the right coronary artery (RCA). Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Zulekha Hospital Dubai, Dr Anil Bansal, known for successful management of 100 per cent blocked arteries carried out a three-hour intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) guided coronary angioplasty and stenting procedure to completely open up the blocked artery, restoring the heart’s normal function.

Heart health awareness has been the focus of the ‘2019 Cigna 360 Well-Being Survey – Well and Beyond’ and it underscored two important issues: the lack of understanding about symptoms that may indicate potential heart problems and how high blood pressure is manageable with lifestyle changes. The survey also discloses that 77% agree that lifestyle changes can help heart health but 1 in 6 have not done anything about it. 23% of millennials have experienced symptoms that may indicate potential heart problems in the past 6 months compared to 17% of those aged 50+.

Jose is thankful that he was advised to meet Dr. Bansal in time. He says, “I have been trying to get this relief for many years now and have finally been relieved of the uneasiness with this procedure. I feel much lighter and able to breathe normally, which was difficult while moving around earlier.”

Dr. Anil Bansal states, “There are lot of patients living in our societies who are not treated rightly and are ignorant of the complete diagnosis and continue to live an uneasy life on medication and fear, coupled with other side effects distorting their normal lives. We are proud to have been able to treat Jose’s condition successfully with our expertise at Zulekha Hospital.”

“It is imperative that we watch our health and have regular tests done, avoid unbalanced eating habits and maintain healthy levels.”

Jose has been discharged the next day after his procedure and advised to follow a low salt, diabetic diet to avoid recurrence.
